Nineteen of Daniil Medvedev's 21 victories have been earned on hard surfaces

A comeback the Russian player secured his first trophy for 882 days with victory over Corentin Moutet in the tournament championship match.

The Russian, a ex- number one, has had a difficult season, managing just one win at the Grand Slams and undergoing a setback at the New York tournament.

His inconsistency on the ATP Tour - and struggles with his serving in particular - caused him exiting of the world's top 10 and eventually parting ways with long-time coach Cervara.

Now collaborating with Thomas Johansson and Goetzke, the tennis star has steadily advanced in the last few weeks - peaking in a hard-fought 7-5 4-6 6-3 win over challenger Corentin Moutet.

This marks Medvedev's maiden championship following the Rome competition and first on a hardcourt after spring of 2023.

Victory also indicates he has secured 21 championships at twenty-one various competitions.

"This marks the first occasion I am participating in a competition with my children at once, so to secure a title is particularly special," commented ranked player Medvedev.

"This championship is in dedication of my child her name, because the maiden victory I won when my child my daughter was delivered was for her."

The athlete, the 2021 US Open champion, had lost his previous six finals, featuring in that event earlier this year.

His retrieving approach and frequent emotional displays on court had led some to question if his ability to perform at the elite level was over.

However the 29-year-old has altered his approach in the last few weeks, striving to come to the net and play assertively, supported by an improved service.

The champion came back from a disadvantage in the initial set against the challenging Moutet, securing four of the concluding five exchanges to take the lead.

Both players exchanged service breaks in the second set before the Frenchman, attempting for his maiden ATP Tour title, seized the initiative to force a third set.

The opponent rescued 4 initial chances in a competitive deciding set before Medvedev won the break to 15 to secure the win.

Suitably, Medvedev clinched victory with a shot at the net, with Moutet failing to handle a volley after two hours and 38 minutes.
